YOUR HOLIDAY DESTINATION
The small town of Kenmare is famous for its delicious cuisine and lively pubs - and of course for its fantastic location in the middle of one of the most unspoilt natural landscapes in Europe. It is an excellent base for all activities.
Kenmare lies at the head of beautiful Kenmare Bay, which stretches for 50 kilometres to the Atlantic Ocean. The name is an anglicised version of Ceann Mara, which translates into English as "head of the sea". The original Irish name of the town is "Neidin", which means "little nest", as the town nestles into the surrounding mountains that characterise the landscape so impressively.
HOW TO FIND US:
Deer Park Lodge - 5, Hawthorn Wood, Kenmare V93 W527
From Kerry/Killarney: Take the A71 through Kenmare towards Bantry. After the bridge over the bay it is the 3rd entrance (somewhat inconspicuous) on the right. Just follow the road Hawthorn Wood. Our house is at the end of the small park and has a red entrance door with the house number 5.
From Bantry: Follow the N71 towards Kenmare. Approx. 1 km before Kenmare there is a driveway on the right into the small settlement of Hawthorn Wood. Be careful, it is easy to drive past...

A
Arrival: from 4 pm. The heating is switched on. If the temperature is not sufficient, please contact us.
B
Baby equipment: A baby cot with changing mat, high chair and crockery are available.
Baby - attention: Behind the house is a small stream (called Stream) it is only small but carries more water when it rains. Please keep an eye on your children. The stream is not fenced.
Back door (at the utility room). Please make sure that the back door is always locked when you leave the house.
Bedside lamp: the lamps go on and off by touch without a switch.
Some lamps in the living area have the switch in the shade (small black button that is pushed back and forth).
C
Check in and check out: Check in is possible from 4 pm on the day of arrival. Check-out is at 10:00 am on the day of departure. A later departure is only possible by prior arrangement. We ask for your understanding, as the house must be prepared for the next guests.
Coffee: You will find a machine for filter coffee in the kitchen - but also a capsule machine ('Nespresso-type' capsules) from De'Longhi....
Contact on site: Your contact person on site is Lorraine - we will send you her contact details separately by email:-)
Cot: for the little ones there is a cot with changing mat and of course a high chair so that everyone can sit together at the table. Plastic crockery can be found in the kitchen cupboard.
Clothes: We are in Ireland - so it's always best to pack an umbrella. The onion look is best, because a rain shower is often quickly followed by blue skies and sunshine!
Crime: Kenmare has virtually no crime. You can feel safe and relaxed. Nevertheless, please always close the windows and doors when you leave the house.
D
Deer: You will probably see a few deer around the house every day. They have young in June. Please do not feed the deer, they cannot tolerate it and will otherwise become ill.
F
Food: Please do not leave food or leftovers outside the house - various animal visitors - especially deer - would have fun with it and would not tolerate it.
Fridge: Please use the large fridge next to the kitchen. It offers plenty of space and has a large freezer compartment.
Fireplace: the fireplace is electric and easy to use. You will find instructions on the mantelpiece.
G
Garden furniture: Garden chairs for a cosy day or evening in the garden are in the shed.
Grill: A Weber charcoal barbecue is also in the shed. All you have to do is get some charcoal and off you go. Please make sure that no glowing coal is thrown away and put the barbecue back in the shed when you leave. If the barbecue is not cleaned properly, we will unfortunately have to charge an additional €50 cleaning fee.
H
Hairdryer: There are 2 hairdryers. You can find them in the bathroom cabinets.
Heating: the heating is controlled centrally. If it does not work or the temperature is too high/low, please contact Lorraine - your local contact.
I
Internet: We have a fast fibre optic internet connection throughout the house. Wifi: 'Guest' - dial-up data will be sent to you separately by e-mail.
Ironing. You will find an ironing board and iron in the utility room.
L
Light: If a light bulb breaks, you will find a replacement and tools in the small storage room on the upper floor.
P
Pubs: Kenmare has a surprising number of good pubs for its size. In the high season it is advisable to make a reservation if you want to eat there. The kitchen closes relatively early - usually at 9pm. Recommendations can be found further on in the guest directory.
R
Restaurants: There are a number of upmarket restaurants in addition to the classic pubs. The nearest restaurant is "The Stables" - about 3 minutes away by car.
Rain: 4 umbrellas save you from the wet coming from above. Please put them in the umbrella stand to dry and leave them there when you leave - the following guests will be happy - just like you.
Rubbish: Please take your rubbish to the rubbish bin regularly and at the latest by the end of your stay. The lid must be firmly closed. Do not leave any barbecue/food waste outside the house. Please put glass in the basket provided in the utility room.
S
Showers: Our showers work - as usual in Ireland - with an electric pump. Please follow the instructions on the shower. To start the pump, please pull the small cord next to the shower. Please switch the pump off again after showering. If you have the feeling that the water pressure is too low, you may have forgotten to pull the cord ;-)
Sockets: The sockets have a switch that activates the socket.
Shoes: Please take your shoes off at the entrance so as not to damage the parquet flooring.
T
Telephone: Deer Park Lodge does not have a landline. But you have good reception for your mobile phone everywhere. The dialling code for Ireland is: +353.
Television: There is a Smart TV in the fireplace room on which you can also watch Netflix or other streaming services with your own account. You will find instructions further back in the guest folderToys: We have various games and toys for children of all ages. Have fun with them - please treat them well so that others can enjoy them too.
Towels: Towels are changed weekly. The towels from the house may not be taken to the beach. Please use your own beach towels.
Tumble dryer: There is a tumble dryer available for your laundry. Please always ventilate a little during drying and be sure to empty the lint filter and the water tank after drying.
Transport: If you walk to Kenmare, it will take you 10-15 minutes to cross the beautiful bridge at the strait. There is no proper pavement for the first 200 metres, so please keep an eye out for traffic and take a torch with you if returning home in the dark. There is no night lighting except for the marvellous starry sky.
Y
Yoga: time to meditate or do gymnastics? A good idea. You'll find a (red) yoga mat in one of the bedrooms.
W
Wifi: There is a excellent Wifi connection throughout the house. We will send you the Wifi code for the 'Guest' network separately by email:-)
Washing machine: If you need to do your washing, you are welcome to use our new fast washing machine. There is also a tumble dryer.
Wet clothes: Please leave wet shoes and clothing in the cloakroom. Do not walk over the wooden parquet or carpets with wet shoes.
